Embark on a 7 days trekking from Zagora to explore Elfayja, Bani, Chegaga Dunes, and more. Experience Sahara’s beauty with Karim Sahara Trekking.
Day 1 – Zagora – Elfayja – Bani
Early in the morning, we meet our team of camel drivers and we head south towards the flat desert of Elfayja
Lunch break in the shade of a tree
Night bivouac at the foot of the Bani mountains with dinner and overnight in a Berber tent.
Day 2 – Bani – Col Oum Laachar – Tighraghrine – Diabi Oasis
After breakfast and loading the camels, the caravan sets off to climb the Djebel Bani pass which is part of the pre-desert mountains, then take the easy stony descent; a real mountainous desert (black mountain, some greenery, a few nomads in Bedouin tents made from the hair of goats and camels).
Lunch will be served in the shade of a tree and participants will be able to take a well-deserved rest.
After the break, we will continue our way through the valley.
We will cross another small pass before arriving at our bivouac located near a barely flowing spring at the Diabi oasis.
Day 3 – Diabi – Amda Noumssafi – Imi-oued – Lemhasser
approximately 20 km/6 hours
After breakfast, we leave this Oasis and we walk on the bed of a dry river to finally flow into a lake located between the mountains which contains rainwater, collected in winter.
After the lunch break in the shade of an acacia tree, we take the path between the mountains towards Imi-N’oued-Lemhasser
In the evening, the bivouac will be set up near the nomads who love to settle between the mountains and the sandy desert.
Day 4 – Imi-N’oued Lemhasser- Chegaga dunes
After breakfast, we set off to discover the immense desert which begins with a vast stony plateau just after crossing the El Abbés pass. We will have a beautiful panoramic view of the sand desert (Chegaga dunes too small from a distance) following a path that is barely passable for camels; really a test going up to the pass and descending on large black slabs, limestone rocks well eroded by the wind and heat.
At the small watering hole of a single palm tree, we stop to have lunch.
After lunch, we travel through a stony desert before reaching the dunes of Chégaga, where our bivouac is set up for the night.
You will admire the sunset before dinner as well as the sky studded with a thousand stars before a well-deserved night.
Day 5 – Chegaga – Bougarne dunes (16 kms)
After breakfast, we set off to the rhythm of the camels and we pass a multitude of small dunes on the end of Chégaga, heading in parallel towards the east of Jebel Abbés, towards Mhamid and Oued Draa.
Lunch in the shade of tamarisk trees, then continuation towards the dunes of Bougarne, a magnificent less frequented area where our bivouac will be set up for the night.
Day 6 – Bougarne Dunes – Oued Naam Dunes (16 kms)
After a hearty breakfast, we resume our walk via the plateau and the sea of sand.
Lunch break in the shade of a tree.
After the break we continue our circuit to the dunes of Oued Naam where our bivouac will be set up for the night.
We will celebrate our last stop in the desert around a campfire with tasting of bread baked under the sand according to tradition accompanied by mint tea.
Day 7 – Oued Naam Dunes – Ouladriss – Zagora
After breakfast, short walk to Ouladriss.
We will have lunch on the route and in the afternoon, we will reach the road where we will leave the camels. We will take a private vehicle for the return to Zagora
